Bodega Head: An easy hour long loop: stunning views in every direction, whales, seals, sharks, wildlife, and amazing scenery! You're cruising around the San Andreas fault!


Shell Beach to Pomo Canyon (or Red Hill): Serious hike from the beach to the redwoods. 800 feet up and down, through grasslands, forests, manzanitas, great views all over. A great work out!

Armstrong Redwoods

 The self-guided Armstrong Nature Trail is the best bet for first-time visitors, since you’ll learn about redwood trees via interpretive displays as you stroll along. Armstrong’s trails are relatively short, but you can string them together and loop around to create a varied five- to six-mile hike. Fort Ross State Historic Park

The southern-most border of expansion of the Russian Empire into the Americas! A restoration and recreation of the old fur trading outpost. Restored to appear as it was in the 1770's.


A beautiful drive up Hwy 1- for a bit of history!

 Fort Ross State Historic Park brings attention to the varied stories that have occurred here through the centuries, including the long formation of the coastal natural history, the centuries past and present of resident Kashia Pomo people, the Russian colonization periods (1812-1842), the Ranch era (1842-1972), and the over one hundred year era of this area as a protected resource as a State Historic Park. The park's Visitor Center is an excellent place to start a tour of Fort Ross to become acquainted with the rich natural and cultural history of the area.
